Why is your muscle mass getting low when you are aged? Sarcopenia was reported as the decline of muscle mass with age by Irwin Rosenberg in 1989. So far, it refers to both of low muscle mass and poor muscle function. The possible and potential mechanism of the age-related sarcopenia may be related to myostatin, inflammatory cytokines, and mitochondrial dysfunction which is considered as the most important reason.
